The wilderness trail is made out of a 3,8 mile long stretch
which leads through a number of different nature landscapes.
The walk starts in the evening and will end before twilight
falls. The walk starts at “Åsby” and from
there we walk towards “Hjälmsryd” village.
We start by walking through a tilled land and continue through
a younger spruce stand, after that we come to “Hjälmsryd”.
There we pass through a very well preserved and well kept tilled
land.
The walk continues through the village and we pass the old limetree
(according to a special committee, the thickest limetree in
Sweden). As we leave the village domains we spot the two big
oaktrees that marks the border of the domains.
We continue along the road to “Toftaån” which
we later follow up towards “Forsa” village. On our
way we pass through a very special landscape with rich vegetation
and many different species. During spring you can see the “tibast
flower” bloom with its light red flowers. We pass the
small river and walk towards “Forsa” village and
we see the old mill, which still is in use at some times.

After passing “Forsa”
we head into the forest. At first we pass a bog with its
thin pines and elastic grounds before we get to the forest
and firm grounds. Out on the bog we can spot an area where
the “dwarf birch” grows. We will surely see
excrement from the moose who lives in this area. We pass
some old wind fallen trees which have lain for several
years and at this point the forest have the character
of virgin forest. The forest changes in age and apearance,
at times we get into the real virgin forest with its thick
trunks and almost no light reaching the ground. In the
forest we also find a well where the cold and clear water
comes up from the ground, the thirsty rambler can taste
the fresh water. |
On twisted paths we reach the hunter's cabin, at which point
the walk ends. Here we make a fire and make coffee, barbeque
hotdogs and other tasty things. At the hunter's cabin you will
find a toilet and perhaps some other small activities. At bad
weather we stay indoors otherwise we gather around the fire
as twilight falls. (In case of extremely dry weather we make
a fire over an outdoor barbeque set.)
Having put the fire out we head straight back to the start
point.
